Summary

In this paper the possibility of a statistical approach to the optimum design problem for a given circuit topology is considered.Given a merit figure η depending on the circuit properties, it is attempted to find out that component specification for which \(\mathop \eta \limits^ \wedge \) is maximum under the following conditions:

$${\mathop \varphi \limits^ \wedge _j} \leqslant {\mathop \varphi \limits^ - _j}\quad (j = 1,2, \ldots \ldots )$$

where \(\mathop \eta \limits^ \wedge \) and \({\mathop \varphi \limits^ \wedge _j}\) are defined by

$$prob.(\eta \leqslant \mathop \eta \limits^ \wedge ) = \mathop {\rm P}\limits^ - $$
$$prob.({\varphi _j} \geqslant \mathop {{\varphi _j}}\limits^ \wedge ) = {\mathop {\rm P}\limits^ - _j}$$

,\({\mathop \varphi \limits^ - _j}\),\(\mathop {\rm P}\limits^ - \) and \( {\mathop {\rm P}\limits^ - _j} \). being preassigned. The method proposed for the optimization is then applied to a logical network realized by “NOR” modules, and the results are reported.
