Abstract
The quantitative bioassay technique for human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) discussed by Dr. Roy Hertz, is a sensitive, accurate and well tested method. “We have employed it in our clinic for the past seven years. It is, however, a procedure which is expensive, time consuming and not always adaptable to clinics with little or no laboratory facilities. On the other hand, the immunologic techniques now commonly employed for diagnosis of pregnancy, take little time and are relatively inexpensive. When performed on non-processed urine, however, they are not sensitive enough for quantitative gonadotropin assay.
