Zusammenfassung
Daß körperliche Aktivität zur Gesundheit und zum Wohlbefinden durch physische und psychisehe Verbesserung vieler Organsysteme bedeutend beiträgt, findet zunehmende Anerkennung. Im besonderen ist man sich der starken umgekehrten Beziehung zwischen körperlicher Aktivitat und der Inzidenz tödlicher und nichttödlicher Infarkte bewußt. Es hat seine guten Gründe, daß körperliche Aktivität Unterstützung gewinnt, entweder als präventive Versicherung oder weil man glaubt, daß sie wie die Tugend ihren Lohn in sich trägt. Während eines knappen Jahrzehnts hat die Teilnahme an populären Sportarten und anstrengenden Freizeittätigkeiten in der westlichen Welt einen phänomenalen Aufschwung genommen. Anzeichen mehren sich, daß diese soziale Manifestation nicht nur eine vorübergehende Mode ist und daß sie weittragende Auswirkungen haben wird auf die Planung der Gesundheitserhaltung und die Tätigkeiten vieler Menschen. Man hat sie als eine der markantesten Veränderungen des Lebensstils des 20. Jahrhunderts bezeichnet.
