Abstract

The ultrasound examination, in this clinical context, should cover the whole of the genital tract, including internal organs. Therefore, a genital ultrasound should include an examination of the scrotum, followed by a study of the junctional region of the prostate, seminal vesicles and the vas deferens. This latter part is performed initially by a suprapubic scan. If this gives insufficient detail, a complimentary endorectal scan is indicated.
