Zusammenfassung

Die expansive Entwicklung der Wissenschaften in den letzten Jahrzehnten hat nicht nur zu einer erheblichen Verbreiterung der klassischen Wissenschaftsbereiche geführt, sondern auch ganz neue Wissenschaftszweige entstehen lassen. Das Eindringen mathematisch-statistischer Gedankengänge und Methoden in den Bereich der biologischen Wissenschaften hat zu einer enormen Entwicklung der Biometrie geführt; daneben ist eine Wissenschaft im Entstehen, die man als „mathematische Biologie“ bezeichnen kann, ein Begriff, unter dem alle die Bestrebungen zusammengefaßt werden können, die versuchen, biologische Vorgänge und Sachverhalte in Modellvorstellungen zu beschreiben.
