Abstract

For a complete determination of the peripheral circulation, methods for measuring both macrocirculation and microcirculation should be used. This is of crucial importance when evaluating, e.g., skin viability (Fagrell 1977). One of the most frequently used noninvasive methods for evaluating peripheral macrocirculation is the measurement of segmental systolic blood pressures (SBP) (Gundersen 1972). With this technique the arterial circulation of a limb can be segmentally evaluated, and it has been shown that the degree of decrease in SBP corresponds well to the degree of obstruction in the main arteries of the limb.
