Zusammenfassung

Bis zum Ende der 60er Jahre war die Entwicklung und Erprobung von Membranlungen so weit fortgeschritten, daß wichtige Voraussetzungen der Biokompatibilität für einen extrakorporalen Gasaustausch über mehrere Tage bis Wochen gegeben waren (27). Mit ersten Tierversuchen bis zu 16 Tagen Dauer erprobte Theodor Kolobow am National Heart and Lung Institute (USA) das Konzept der veno-venösen extrakorporalen Blutzirkulation mit präpulmonalem Gastausch. Sein Ziel war die zeitliche Überbrückung der Gasaustauschstörung beim akuten Lungenversagen (25).
