Zusammenfassung
Trotz intensiver Risikoforschung und Therapie der Hypertonie, Hypercholesterinämie und Nikotinabusus haben arteriosklerotische Organerkrankungen zugenommen. Nach Herzinfarkt und Karzinom ist der Apoplex die dritte Todesursache. Der überlebte zerebrale ischämische Insult mit bleibender Lähmung und Arbeitsunfähigkeit bedeutet für den Patienten und seine Familie eine ungeheure Belastung. Heute können Anamnese, klinische Untersuchung und moderne Untersuchungstechniken Stenose- und Verschlußprozesse extrakranieller Gefäße früh diagnostizieren. Und seit den ersten erfolgreichen Operationen an der Karotis von Carrea 1951 (5), De Bakey 1953 (9) und Eastcott 1954 (12) ist die Operation an der Karotis und anderen extrakraniellen Gefäßen in gefäßchirurgischen Zentren fast zu einem Routineeingriff geworden. In dieser Arbeit soll über Klinik, Operationsindikation und Ergebnisse nach rekonstruktiven Eingriffen berichtet werden.
