Zusammenfassung

Bluthochdruck ist ein wesentlicher Risikofaktor für Schlaganfall (17) und koronare Herzerkrankung sowohl im mittleren Lebensalter als auch bei älteren Personen (12). Ein Zusammenhang zwischen hohem Blutdruck und steigender Morbidität und Mortalität bedeutet jedoch nicht notwendigerweise, daß die medikamentöse antithypertensi-ve Behandlung die Risiken beim älteren Menschen verändert. Kontrollierte Therapiestudien mit Antithypertensiva beim alten Menschen konnten keine Erhöhung von Mortalität oder Morbidität durch eine aktive Behandlung zeigen und haben vielmehr entweder keinen Unterschied (14, 16,19) oder mögliche, jedoch nicht notwendigerweise statistisch signifikante Vorteile erbracht (18, 20–22).
