Zusammenfassung
In den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten hat es große Fortschritte in der experimentellen Atomphysik gegeben. Durch starke und kurze Laserpulse können exotische Zustände von Atomen erzeugt werden, in elektromagnetischen Fallen können Experimente an einzelnen Atomen und Ionen durchgeführt und die Abhängigkeit ihrer Eigenschaften von Details ihrer Umgebung studiert werden, und die hochauflösende Laserspektroskopie ermöglicht Präzisionsstudien an feinsten Details der Spektren. Dadurch sind Effekte und Phänomene heute in den Mittelpunkt des Interesses gerückt, die früher eher als kleine Störungen oder dem Experiment nicht zugängliche Sonderfälle betrachtet wurden. Diese Fortschritte brachten neue Herausforderungen für die Theorie. Es stellte sich heraus, daß schon in scheinbar einfachen atomaren Systemen mit wenigen Freiheitsgraden interessante und vielschichtige Effekte auftreten können, deren theoretische Beschreibung oft alles andere als einfach ist. In diesem Kapitel sollen als Beispiele drei Themen herausgegriffen werden, die in den letzten Jahren Gegenstand intensiver Forschung und manchmal auch kontroverser Diskussionen gewesen sind.
