Abstract

The facial nerve has a specific funicular structure. The nerve has multiple funiculi only in the extratemporal portion. It has remained controversial whether each funiculus in a nerve has a topographic organization of nerve fibers. The problem has not yet been investigated in the facial nerve. Using guinea pigs, the experiment was conducted to find the relationship between funicular structure and nerve fiber topography by anterograde degeneration technique.
