Abstract

The basement membrane glycoprotein laminin has been shown in vitro to stimulate the growth or regeneration of neuronal processes [2], to act together with neurotrophic factors to promote neuronal survival [8] and to stimulate the proliferation of glial cells [23]. Furthermore, experiments after lesion in vivo indicate that laminin is required for the survival of neural cells [17] and is involved in the regeneration of axons peripheral nerves [27].
