Pterygodermatites nycticebi, Tamarins

  • Chapter
Nonhuman Primates

Part of the book series: Monographs on Pathology of Laboratory Animals ((LABORATORY))

Abstract

Tamarins heavily affected with Pterygodermatites nycticebi are usually thin with depleted fat stores and numerous white spirurid nematodes are present throughout the gastrointestinal tract. The majority of the worms are in the small intestine and upper colon but a few may be found in other segments. Most worms are free in the lumen but the smaller ones may be found attached to the mucosa (Fig. 73). The maximum dimensions of the adult worms are: female, 30 by 1 mm; male, 8.5 by 0.5 mm.
