Acute and Long-Term Side-Effects of Radiotherapy

Part of the book series: Recent Results in Cancer Research ((RECENTCANCER,volume 130))

Abstract

According to the results of the German multicenter trials in Hodgkin’s disease in children (HD 82), projected 5-year event-free survival rates are 90% (stage IIIB/IV), 96% (stage IIB/IIIA), and 99% (stage I/IIA) (Schellong et al. 1989). Because of this favorable prognosis after stage-adjusted combined chemotherapy and radiotherapy (all stages) the avoidance of long-term treatment-related morbidity has become of great importance.
