Abstract

The PTHS-method is a direct development of the Transient Hot Strip technique and specifically designed for thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity measurements of non-conducting surface layers produced by PVD or similar techniques. In measurements performed so far an evaporated “micro-strip” of a Nobel metal has been used both as heat source and as temperature sensor.

Measurements have been performed on Vitreous Silica produced by PVD, Intrinsic Gallium Arsenide, Optical Glass and Liquid Crystal. For these measurements the probing depth has bee estimated to vary from one to ten micrometers.
