Waiting-Time Effect on the Specific Heat of Polybutadien

Abstract

Polybutadien (PB) is a typical glass with simple structure and low glass-transition temperature, and interesting metastable states in this material has been observed recently[1]. It was shown by neutron scattering measurements, that the dynamic structure factor of PB follows a Kohlrausch law[2] and that there is a transition to a nonergodic state near the glass-transition temperature[3]. In this paper, we report on our investigations on the responses of the metastable states in PB to different thermal paths by specific-heat measurements.
