Far-Infrared Applications of High-Temperature Superconductors: Fabry-Pérot Resonators and Fast Detectors

Far-infrared applications of high temperature superconductors, namely Fabry-Pérot resonators and fast detectors, are reported. At terahertz frequencies high finesse (~ 60 at 3 THz) is obtained for Fabry-Pérot resonators with YBa2Cu3O7-on-MgO reflectors and fast, nonbolometric response with a response time < 100 ps is found for structured YBa2Cu3O7 thin films at frequencies from 0.1 THz to nearly 10 THz.
