Abstract

It is shown that, under certain conditions, the normal method of stochastic averaging can be applied to predict the probability distribution of the response of a wide class of hysteretic oscillator to wide-band random excitation. Some specific results are obtained for oscillators with hysteresis of the curvilinear, Bouc-Wen type. Good agreement is obtained between theoretical predictions and experimental results, derived from dynamic tests on a mass-cable system.
