Bilayer Elasticity and Its Effects on Channel-Forming Peptides

The internal elastic mode of a bilayer and its effect on channel-forming peptides are discussed. We explain the effect of bilayer thickness on the gramicidin channel lifetime and discuss a new phase-transition-like phenomenon of alamethicin in bilayers.
