Abstract

The atom site specified tunneling spectroscopy has been performed by scanning tunneling microscopy to characterize the properties of each of the component layers independently in Bi2Sr2CaCu2Oy single crystal. The origin of anisotropy of the high temperature superconductors is discussed based on the role of each layer. The potentiality of the STM/STS as well as its problems are also discussed. The overall shape of the spectrum has been examined as a function of the distance between the STM tip and the sample surface.
