Abstract

Structures of existing cuprate superconductors can be viewed as alternating stacks of conducting CuO2-sheets and insulating ionic layers (block layers). Using the concept of the block layer, we argue the classification and material design of CuO2-layer based superconductors. In particular, dependence of carrier-doping characteristics on the Cu-O network and bond length is discussed based on the observed variation of some electronic and vibrational parameters.
