Wave transformation phenomena in shallow water are of great theoretical and practical importance. From the viewpoint of coastal engineering, nearshore waves act as an external forcing to coastal structures, and as the main driving agent for nearshore currents and sediment transport. From the viewpoint of theoretical fluid dynamics, wave transformation processes produce some important (but unsolved) problems on water wave dynamics.
