Radiation Therapy in Pediatric Oncology

Part of the book series: Medical Radiology ((Med Radiol Radiat Oncol))

Abstract

Supratentorial astrocytomas accounted for 36% of all pediatric brain tumors in the SEER registry review of 1973–1980 (25% low-grade astrocytomas and 11% high-grade astrocytomas) (Duffner et al. 1986). No predilection for either sex has been noted. Age at time of presentation ranges from infancy to 20 years, with the median at 12.7 years.
