Abstract
Autologous tissues have been taken from various sites for reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) (Noyes et al. 1984). The patellar tendon finally emerged as the most utilized source of autograft material (Clancy and Ray 1987). But even patellar tendon replacements of the ACL have not proven perfect in all patients 5—10 years after the operation (Johnson et al. 1984; Roth et al. 1985). Extraarticular techniques also have been proposed for ACL reconstruction (e.g., the Lemaire procedure).
