Abstract
Since the boundary element method has emerged, in the late seventies, as a powerful numerical technique endowed with the capability of solving a wide range of engineering problems, it has been the focus of interest among researchers, design engineers and software developers alike. The ‘promise’ of a by one degree reduction in the size of a problem with all the consequent economies in computation, time and money is perhaps behind all the energy invested in developing the method.
