Summary

A Computer-Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) System is complex, with distributive data, concurrent, and interacting processes. Individual processes can be carried out concurrently at each workstation under the control of a host computer. Petri Nets is a powerful tool for modeling and analysis of asynchronous, concurrent systems which exhibits synchronization and contention for shared resources, making it suitable for application to CIM systems. This paper discusses modeling, analysis, and performance evaluation of CIM systems using petri Nets. An application of Generalized Stochastic Petri Net model to a Computer-Integrated Assembly Cell is illustrated.
