Zusammenfassung

Die sekretorische Otitis media (SOM) ist ein pathologischer Zustand des Mittelohres in Form eines Ergusses hinter einem intakten Trommelfell ohne eindeutige, akute Entzündungszeichen. Diese Definition schließt ein breitgefächertes Syndrom ein, u. a. Ergüsse als Folge eines Barotraumas, bzw. sekundär bei Karzinomen der Kopf-Hals-Region. Die Mehrzahl der Patienten mit einer SOM repräsentieren hingegen eine Entität, in der zytologische, bakteriologische, biochemische, histopathologische, klinische und epidemiologische Charakteristika einen entzündlichen Zustand erzeugen. Dieser Symptomkomplex ist die Grundlage für die folgende Abhandlung. Das betreffende Krankheitsbild kann u. a. auch als subakute Otitis media imponieren, mit einem Spektrum reichend von einer ausgeprägten akuten Mittelohrentzündung bis hin zu lang anhaltenden chronischen Affektionen.
