Zusammenfassung

Nach der klinischen Erprobung radioaktiver Nuklide — wie Au-198 und Ra-226 — zur interstitiellen Strahlentherapie des Prostatakarzinoms wurde J-125 von Hilaris u. Whitmore (1972) mit einem innovativen Konzept in die Klinik eingeführt. Die Strahlungscharakteristik dieses Nuklids ermöglichte in Vergleich zur konventionellen Teletherapie die Applikation höherer Herddosen über einen langen Zeitraum bei geringerer aktinischer Belastung der Nachbarstrukturen. Die Erfahrungen der ersten 10 Jahre (Grossman et al. 1982) waren ermutigend, wobei die zufriedenstellenden Ergebnisse bei frühen Tumorstadien und die sehr niedrige Rate an erektiler Impotenz das Verfahren als Alternative zur radikalen Prostatektomie erscheinen ließ.
