Smalltalk-80 Graphics Kernel

  • Chapter
Object-Oriented Graphics

Part of the book series: Symbolic Computation ((1276))

Abstract

We will present the graphics kernel of the Smalltalk-80 system and focus on the aspects that are relevant to the chapters that follow. In particular, Smalltalk-80 will be contrasted to GKS and PHIGS. In addition, Smalltalk-80 concepts offer ideas and suggestions for the specification of GEO++ in Chap. 8. The ideas are mainly derived from an analysis of the underlying object-oriented principles and not so much from the actual functionality of the Smalltalk-80 graphics kernel. An extended description of the Smalltalk-80 graphics kernel is presented in Goldberg & Robson, 1983.
