Abstract
Computer Aided design/analysis procedures have relied heavily on finite-element analysis over the last twenty years. In practice reliance only on FE codes for analysis usually required the design to be sent for manufacturing before detailed analysis results were available to guide the design. New designs were incrementally evolved from existing ones and detailed analysis was carried out only to validate designs which have been developed based on simple hand calculations. A more attractive approach based on the Boundary element method is proposed. This technique allows the design engineers to create analysis models quickly from their design geometry and perform analysis so that the results would be quickly available to help them to modify the designs and optimize them before detailed production drawings were made. BEASY is a widely used and validated commercial software package which provides the tools based on boundary element method to design engineers to explore new design concepts. BEASY is also a cost effective alternative to finite element systems.
