Part of the book series: Springer Series in Surface Sciences ((SSSUR,volume 19))

Abstract

Positive or negative, atomic or molecular ions may be desorbed during an electron bombardment of layers adsorbed on solid samples. The charge and the nature of the desorbed species depend on the adsorbed layer composition as well as on the energy of the incident electron beam.
