Development of Creep Damages on Heatresistant Ferritic Steel

When high-temperature ferritic steels are subjected to creep stress, plastic creep procedures take place in the material which limit the service life of a component. The damage probability therefore generally increases parallel to the operating time /1/. The service life itself, respectively the point in time when damage occurs, can however only be predicted with great uncertainty, as the input data for life time analysis are not usually available in the degree of precision required for the purpose. Consequently, the longer the operating time lasts, the greater the significance attached to inhouse monitoring procedures including repetitive tests by means of non destructive testing methods /2/.
