Abstract
Since 1985, soon after the start of the CAD*I project a close interaction between CAD*I and the activities aiming at an international standard in this field has begun. On the international level, all these activities aim at an ISO standard for the “external representation of product definition data” Members from the CAD*I team became active in the national standardisation bodies of the UK (BSI) and Germany (DIN). As BSI and DIN delegates, CAD*I members have been actively participating in all meetings of ISO/TC184/SC4 and its working group ISO/TC184/SC4/WG1. Several of these meetings were joint meetings with the US IGES/PDES group, there was also direct interaction with both IGES and PDES. During one of these combined meetings (1985 in Seattle) the B-rep representation for IGES 5.0 was adjusted such that it would not be in conflict with the principles that had already been established for CAD*I and which were also accepted for STEP.
