Abstract
Near the trailing edge of a splitter plate in an originally laminar mixing layer, the coherent structures have a nominally constant period with no superimposed random fine scale turbulence. However, in a region further downstream, the phase of the passing coherent structures becomes decorrelated and random small eddies occur. In this paper, the physical mechanisms of these transition processes are discussed.
