Abstract
Investigations of the interaction between surface acoustic waves (SAW) and a two-dimensional electron system in GaAs/A1GaAs heterojunctions at low temperatures and in high magnetic fields are reviewed. Experimental results demonstrating the dependence on quantizing magnetic fields and on SAW power and frequency are presented and discussed. It is shown that the interaction is strongest in the Quantum Hall regime and thus can serve as an additional tool to study quantum phenomena in two-dimensional electron systems.
