Abstract
Mechanical ventilation is currently performed in a wide variety of acute conditions through either an oral or nasal translaryngeal endotracheal tube or a tracheostomy tube. Both trechniques may cause various and frequent complications [1–3]. Among these, some are minor such as nasal necrosis with the use of a nasotracheal tube; others such as laryngeal injury, tracheal erosion and stenosis, and mechanical problems with the endotracheal tube may be severe and possibly lethal [2, 3].
