Optimization Method Applied to Identification of Material Parameters

The parameters of a mathematical model are optimized to obtain best possible agree-ment with experimental responses. This we term identification. The well known tools of optimal design, such as sensitivity analysis and linear programming, are directly applicable.

A specific project to identify the material constitutive parameters for the fiber prepregs of a lami-nated plate is described. The identified material parameters are compared with traditional strain gauge results. This project has been carried out as a student project for a Master’s degree.
