On the Development and Application of Software based on the Framework of Cartesian Coordinates

  • Conference paper
Symposium Transsonicum III

Summary

The use of Cartesian grids in the development of aerodynamic application software underlies the work presented in this paper. Motivated by the challenge of having to manage with affordable computers of limited capacity of storage and speed, a concerted effort over the years with Cartesian grids has made it possible to develop useful application software to deal with transonic flow over aerofoils in design and analysis mode, including separated flow at low speeds, and to analyse axisymmetric flows as well as flow over wings and wing-body combinations. Several results are presented here for each of the above flow situations which clearly demonstrate the efficacy of the Cartesian grids for dealing with complex geometry shapes while simulating transonic flow in a full-potential formulation.
