Spontaneous Radiculoneuropathy, Aged Rats

  • Chapter
Nervous System

Part of the book series: Monographs on Pathology of Laboratory Animals ((LABORATORY))

Abstract

In the advanced stage of this age-related disease, atrophy of the skeletal muscles is apparent in the lumbar region and the hindlimbs (Burek 1978). The vital fat stain Sudan III, administered orally 12 h before the autopsy, will demonstrate the focal accumulation of lipid within the spinal nerve roots as macroscopically discernible red patches (Krinke 1983).
