Abstract
It is remarkable that the peak of the upper branch of the excitation spectrum of liquid HeII discovered by Cowley and Woods /1/ lies between 2 Δ0 and 2 Δ1 for \( 0.5{{A}^{{ - 1}}} < \left| {\overrightarrow k } \right| < 2.0{{A}^{{ - 1}}}\); an energy region characteristic of two-quasiparticle excitations. Δ0 and Δ1 are, respectively, energies of roton and maxon. For \(\left| {\overrightarrow k } \right| > 2.0{{A}^{{ - 1}}}\), as is well-known, it behaves like a free-particle excitation. On the other hand, the very broad upper branch has been looked upon as the contribution of multi-quasiparticle excitations.
