Part of the book series: Medical Radiology ((Med Radiol Diagn Imaging))

Abstract

Image processing and analysis are having a significant impact on many scientific fields, especially biomedical research. Though digital imaging techniques are used in many radiology applications, particularly the acquisition, preprocessing, and display phases, insufficient use of their quantitative potential has been made. The majority of analyses are done by visual inspection and comparison of film images. The quantitative information which can be derived from other imaging modalities is largely ignored.
