Abstract
Among the different devices to study plant gas exchange, the mass spectrometer is the most universal detector. With the aid of mass spectrometers the concentrations of several gases (16O2, 18O2, 12CO2, 13CO2, 14CO2, 14NH3, 15NH3 and others) in the atmosphere or in the liquid medium surrounding terrestrial or aquatic plants can be simultaneously and continuously measured.
