Parallel Processing on an IBM 3090 with Vector Facility

The IBM 3090 processor supports tightly-coupled multi-processor vector processing resulting from adding the Vector Facility as a feature to the base multi-processor configurations of the IBM 3090 models 200 and 400. The IBM VS FORTRAN Multitasking Facility permits a single VS FORTRAN application program to simultaneously using multiple processors in a multi-processor system.

This paper presents an overview of the IBM 3090 processor with optional Vector Facility, the VS FORTRAN Multitasking Facility, and performance results for several selected FORTRAN applications executing in combined vector/parallel mode.
