Abstract

The therapeutic consequences of minimal endometrial neoplasias require that a reliable pretherapeutic diagnosis be made. It is therefore important to review the problems involved in diagnosis before discussing treatment. Definition of minimal neoplasia is based on prognostic and therapeutic considerations. Excellent survival rates in case of such lesions justify the concept of a limited therapy. There is, however, no standard description and nomenclature for minimal endometrial neoplasia, since the information available regarding the expression and/or extension of minimal cancer is highly variable. Measurement of the greatest depth of invasion has been suggested as parameter to achieve a better comparison of lesions with minimal invasion. In spite of it being possible to perform exact measurements, there is no agreement on how these particular measurements are to be carried out.
