Abstract
To give an adequate survey of the field of soluble models in fifty minutes is manifestly impossible. What I shall do instead here is to trace a particular thread or set of threads through the sixty years or so of historical development of the subject, examining the evolution of a particular series of models. I believe this exercise offers some Lessons from the Past, thus at least partially fulfilling the guideline requirements for talks at this conference.
