Abstract
The past two decades have witnessed major advances in the treament and supportive care (newer antibiotics, Broviac catheters, total parenteral nutrition) of hematological malignancies, resulting in longer survival and potential cure by conventional and innovative (bone marrow transplantation) treatment regimens. With this improved survival, greater attention has been given to the normal and abnormal emotional reactions patients have to their diagnosis, its treatment, and survivorship. Likewise, quality of life issues are extremely important for patient and family when treatment can only be palliative.
