Abstract

A technique has been implemented in PHOENICS-84 for the calculation of incompressible flows with moving interfaces. The prediction of the position and shape of the interfaces is performed by tracking one or several string of particles moved according to velocities interpolated from the flow field. The interfaces may be used to separate two or more fluids with different properties, or simply to visualise a particular flow numerically. This paper describes the capabilities of the procedure, and gives a brief outline of the mathematical basis and computational practices built in the Particle Tracking Package. Some examples are given to show the performance of the procedure in visualising flows and representing multi-fluid situations.
