Energy and Angle-Resolved SIMS Studies of Cl2 Adsorption on Ag{110}; Evidence for Coverage Dependent Electronic Structure Rearrangements

Abstract

We present angle-resolved secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) measurements for chlorine adsorbed on Ag{110} over a coverage range extending from near zero up to 0.5 monolayer, where a (2×1) LEED pattern is observed. From a detailed analysis of the ejected Cl- kinetic energy, polar angle, and azimuthal angle distributions, as well as from the dependence of the Cl- yield on coverage, we illustrate strong electronic and structural changes that occur over the coverage range.
