Extreme Wave Heights along the Norwegian Coast

Summary

The Gumbel distribution (first asymptote) is used with the annual largest significant wave heights Hs to calculate design wave heights. The formula \( H = HS\sqrt {\frac{1}{2} \ln N} \) has been derived from the extreme distribution. The reasonable values of τHs and N are illustrated. In this paper directional wave statistics have been taken by using hindcast wave data. The worst directions and the worst directional design wave heights are obtained along the Norwegian coastal area.
