Die Entdeckung des immunsuppressiven Wirkstoffs 6-Mercaptopurin, einem Antagonisten der Purinbiosynthese, fand vor jetzt mehr als 25 Jahren statt [3]. Andere Substanzen mit ähnlichen immunsuppressiven Eigenschaften sind hinzugekommen und bilden neben dem Kortison ein wichtiges Standbein der Therapie von Autoimmunkrankheiten.
